Dengue cluster confirmed in Taipei

Taipei, May 25 (CNA) The Taipei City Department of Health has confirmed a cluster infection of dengue fever involving three people who contracted the disease while in Thailand earlier this month.

The confirmation came Thursday, making the imported cases the first dengue cluster in Taipei this year, the department said in a statement Friday.

The three patients -- two National Taiwan University (NTU) students and a mountaineering coach -- are all members of a mountain climbers' club at NTU. With one other club member, the trio traveled to Krabi, Thailand, on May 10 for a rock-climbing tour, according to the statement...

A Kaohsiung man has become this year?s first reported indigenous dengue fever case, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said yesterday.

The patient, who is in his 30s, on Thursday last week sought treatment after coming down with a fever, headache and loss of appetite, the CDC said, adding that he was hospitalized two days later after the symptoms persisted and muscle pain set in.

He was on Sunday confirmed to have contracted dengue virus type 3 (DENV-3) and has been kept in isolation since, the CDC said...

Taipei, July 25 (CNA) Two new indigenous dengue fever cases have been confirmed in Taiwan, the Centers for Disease Control said Wednesday.

A man in his 60s from Xinzhuang, New Taipei was reported to be the third of this year's first cluster of infections after he sought medical treatment on three occasions and was confirmed as having Dengue fever Wednesday, according to CDC Deputy Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥).

The man developed symptoms of fever, diarrhea, aches and a rash on July 18 and received medical treatment that day, July 19 and July 23. His infection was confirmed on July 23...

Another case reported in indigenous dengue fever cluster in New Taipei

Taipei, July 31 (CNA) A fourth case of indigenous dengue fever has been confirmed in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei, and is believed to be part of a cluster infection, the Centers for Disease Control said Tuesday.

The 30-year-old woman, who started showing symptoms of fever on Saturday, lives in the district's Chiunglin village and has no history of recent travel, the CDC said.

The woman was diagnosed with dengue fever Monday after she sought medical treatment the previous day and she is currently hospitalized, the CDC said...

Thai Buddhist monk confirmed as imported case of dengue fever

Taipei, July 31 (CNA) A Buddhist monk from Thailand who recently arrived in Taiwan has been confirmed as an imported case of dengue fever, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the Tainan City Public Health Bureau.

The man had developed fever, dizziness and cold symptoms prior to entering Taiwan through Kaohsiung International Airport July 27, the health bureau said, adding that the quarantine station at the airport however failed to monitor any fever.

After entering the country, the monk boarded a vehicle that took him to Wuchu village in Tainan's Yongkang District, where he felt unwell, the health bureau said...

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- A woman living in the Wenshan District of Taipei has been confirmed to be the first indigenous case of dengue Fever in the city, the first in two years, announced the Taipei Department of Health announced today (Aug. 2).

The woman in her 30s reported suffering a fever and diarrhea on July 29 and went to the hospital on July 30 for treatment. On July 31, she was tested for dengue fever and on Aug. 1 it was confirmed that she had the disease and was placed in isolation.

The woman had not traveled abroad to countries prone to dengue fever for over a year, however she has traveled recently to New Taipei City's Xinzhuang District where a cluster of cases have recently been reported...

More indigenous dengue fever cases reported in Greater Taipei

Taipei, Aug. 8 (CNA) Two more cases of indigenous dengue fever infection have been reported in Taiwan, with one in the capital, Taipei, and the other in neighboring New Taipei, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported Wednesday.

The patient in Taipei is a woman in her 20s who lives in Neihu District, the agency said in a statement.

The woman developed symptoms of fever, headache and diarrhea July 28, and sought medical treatment Aug. 2, when she tested positive to dengue fever infection, according to Ou Chia-ling (歐佳齡), a division chief at the Taipei Department of Health.

The CDC confirmed the case as an indigenous dengue fever Tuesday after performing a second serum test on the patient, Ou said.

In the CDC statement, the second of the latest dengue fever cases was in New Taipei's Xinzhuang District, in which a man aged over 60 was reported to have developed symptoms Aug. 5.

The agency said the Taipei case was found to have been infected by a dengue virus type 1, close to an imported virus from Cambodia...

With 10 of the 14 cases of indigenous dengue fever confirmed so far this year in New Taipei City, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the New Taipei City Department of Health urged people to avoid mosquito bites and take measures to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.

A woman in her 20s in Sinjhuang District (新莊) was last week confirmed to have contracted dengue fever, even though she had not gone abroad, CDC Deputy Director-General Philip Lo (羅一鈞) said on Tuesday.

The woman lives in Haishan Borough (海山里) near Cyonglin Borough (瓊林里), where several clustered cases were reported, indicating that the case might be linked to the outbreak, he said...

New Taipei increases disinfection after 12 dengue cases

New Taipei, the most populous city in Taiwan, is taking more aggressive steps against mosquitoes that spread dengue fever as more cases have been reported.

A new dengue fever case was confirmed in the city of nearly 4 million people yesterday, bringing the total number of people infected by the mosquito-borne disease this year to 12, according to Centers for Disease Control data, CNA reports.

The outbreak indicates that disinfection cleanups missed some spots, New Taipei City Health Commissioner Lin Chi-hung reported at a city government meeting today.

As a result, disinfection measures will be reinforced starting tomorrow in the affected Qionglin ward of Xinzhuang District to eliminate possible breeding areas of vector mosquitoes, Lin said.

All of the indigenous cases of dengue fever infection in New Taipei this year have arisen from Xinzhuang district, including three cluster cases in Qionglin...

CDC verifies six new dengue cases

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) yesterday confirmed six new cases of indigenous dengue fever, bringing the total number of cases this year to 53, with most of them being reported in Taichung and New Taipei City.

Five of the new cases were reported in Taichung?s Dali (大里), Taiping (太平區), East (東) and North (北) districts. Those infected began experiencing symptoms between Aug. 20 and Friday, and four of them are still hospitalized.

Of the five patients, three had visited Happy Farm (開心農場) in Dali District, where several people who have been infected had also visited recently.

Happy Farm and the nearby Neixin Market (內新市場) were identified as high-risk areas and was temporarily closed to the public last week.

102 dengue fever cases reported across Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 9 (CNA) The number of dengue fever cases across Taiwan hit 102 as of Saturday, after 10 new indigenous cases were confirmed, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Six of the 10 new cases occurred in Taichung, with three in Changhua County and one in Kaohsiung, the CDC said, noting that the youngest patient is a teenager and the oldest a septuagenarian.

Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) A 78-year-old woman has become the first reported indigenous dengue fever case in Tainan this year, health authorities in the southern city announced Tuesday.

Taipei, Sept. 12 (CNA) The number of confirmed cases of indigenous dengue fever in Taiwan had increased to 112 as of Tuesday, with five new cases reported the previous day, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said in its latest report on the mosquito-borne disease.
