CDC reports first EV71 case in toddler this year

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) yesterday reported the nation?s first enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection this year involving a toddler, and it urged parents and daycare centers to step up prevention measures against EV71.

CDC Deputy Director-General Chou Jih-haw (周志浩) said the patient is a three-and-a-half-year-old boy from Taoyuan who started became feverish on May 31 after returning from a trip to his mother?s hometown of Xiamen, China...
