Ill doctor of the University Hospital of Lausanne infects 12 persons


An assistant physician for the birth department of the University Hospital Lausanne (CHUV), after his return from the holidays with the twelve influenza virus A (H1N1) infected. Affected patients are two to ten work colleagues.

Lausanne. - "Thank God, it came with the infected person can not be complications," said hospital spokesman Darcy Christen to a report of the Vaud newspaper "24 Heures". The two patients, two pregnant women who had been treated with Tamiflu.

They were infected on Friday 31 July, after the return of the physician assistant. In the night from Friday to Saturday, the man then gekriegt fever. On Saturday morning he still appeared to work, but then heimgeschickt been.

Once alarm was given, the hospital had sought all persons who are in close contact with the physician assistant had confessed. This was a difficult exercise. One patient had 24 hours before the onset of infectious symptoms, said the spokesman.

Of the ten patients, the doctor looks were only two with the flu infected pigs. All 24 work colleagues, with whom he had contact, had to be from 1 August in the hospital for seven days a mouth protection. Ten of them fell ill and had to stay at home.

Since the incident, the precautions have been tightened. At the smallest sign of illness, the staff must remain at home, said Christian.

It is not the first case, where hospital personnel at the porcine influenza disease. Last week, the Berne Inselspital called a number of cases reported amongst employees. The staff fell ill but have no contact with patients had called it.
