WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. health officials will be discussing the latest on the swine flu outbreak during a hearing today on Capitol Hill.
The briefing before a House panel comes a day after a Texas woman became the first U.S. resident to die with the flu. Texas state health officials say the 33-year-old school teacher had "underlying health conditions." They're stopping short of giving swine flu as the cause of her death.
The teacher was from Harlingen, a city near the U.S.-Mexico border. Schools in the district where she taught are being closed starting today. They'll re-open Monday.
Meanwhile, U.S. health officials are no longer recommending that schools shut down for the swine flu. That's a reversal from last week's advice that schools close due to suspected cases of swine flu.
