Swine flu reaches Nunavut's Baffin region

The swine flu outbreak in Nunavut has spread to Nunavut's Baffin Island region, meaning cases have been confirmed throughout the entire territory.
The Nunavut Health Department confirmed a total 189 cases of the H1N1 influenza virus on Tuesday, up 25 since their last update on Saturday.
Health officials said some of the cases are in communities in the territory's easterly Baffin region, marking the virus's first appearance there since swine flu was first detected in Nunavut on May 28.
The majority of infections, about 55 per cent, remain in the territory's Kitikmeot region in the west. About 43 per cent of cases are in the central Kivalliq region. Only two per cent of cases are in the Baffin region.
Health officials say they continue to support frontline health-care workers as they deal with significant outbreaks of the virus in Kitikmeot and Kivalliq communities.
Sixteen patients have been admitted to hospital with swine flu since the outbreak began. Eleven of those patients have since been released.
