The Municipal Department of Health confirmed the first death from H1N1 influenza (swine flu) since 2009. The victim, a man of 51 years, was admitted to the Clinical Hospital two weeks ago and died early on Tuesday (25). The city recorded no cases of the disease since October 2009 when there were seven instances. Altogether, there were 190 registered cases of swine flu that year, with three deaths. The case is the second in Ribeir?o S?o Paulo State in 2011. The State Department of Health reported the first case of death by disease in the last week of a woman of 42, who was a resident of Bauru. According to the medical health officer Carmen Paula Vasconcelos Laprezi, the Department of Health, 147 patient samples collected in 2011 by Project Sentinel, were isolated from the H1N1 influenza virus in six patients.
