Swine flu found in St. John's, N.L., nursing home; man in stable condition

By THE CANADIAN PRESS ? 33 minutes ago

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. ? A case of swine flu has been found at a nursing home in St. John's.

Eastern Health, Newfoundland's largest health board, says the man showed signs of a relatively mild respiratory illness before officials confirmed he had swine flu.

Dr. David Allison, Eastern Health's regional medical officer of health, says the man is in stable condition but that doctors are exercising caution because he has "complex medical needs."

Allison says it's likely that the man contracted the flu from a worker or visitor.

Eastern Health has implemented restrictions at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex, asking visitors to call the home's nurses' station before arriving.

The health board is also telling people not to visit the nursing home if they have flu-like symptoms.
