Swine flu fears for NZ Samoans
Last Updated: 15 hours 11 minutes ago
A Samoan community in New Zealand is awaiting the results of tests on several suspected cases of swine flu.
Health authorities in the city of Christchurch say they have already identified and confirmed a cluster of cases within the community.
They have opened a dedicated clinic to deal with the patients.
It is understood the first cases were found in a grandmother and grandson who had recently returned from Australia.
Opening rush
Tagaloa Su'a, manager of a health professionals group, the Tagata Atumotu Trust, says the clinic treated about 20 people within the first few hours of opening.
"We are communal-living people so it was easy to spread," the manager says.
"There are a lot of people contracting the influenza symptoms and a lot of them have to be confirmed, but there has been confirmed cases as well."
