Swine flu deaths in Alaska now at 9

AP State

ANCHORAGE, Alaska The death of an Anchorage woman last week brings the number of swine flu deaths in Alaska to nine.

The state Health Department says the Anchorage woman had multiple health problems before she caught the flu. She died Nov. 4 at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

Dr. Louisa Castrodale from the state epidemiology office says two men whose deaths were previously unreported died Oct. 4. One was a Fairbanks man in his 20s who died in the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital emergency room. The other was an Anchorage man in his 80s. Both had other health problems.

She says the state has expanded its reporting net.
