Swine flu claims two more lives in Pune

PUNE: A 20-year-old youth and a pregannat woman died of swine flu here taking the death toll due to the disease to 27 in the city.


Sunil Kumbhar, admitted to government Sassoon hospital today in a critical condition, died in the evening, hospital sources said.

28-year-old, Roopali Jore, who was pregnant, had succumbed to the infection at a private hospital where she had been admitted on August 20.

Swine flu claims 4 more lives, nationwide toll reaches 97

EW DELHI: Two more persons including a pregnant woman died of swine flu in Pune and an equal number of patients succumbed to the virus in

Karnataka, taking the countrywide toll in the pandemic to 97 today even as 218 fresh cases were detected across the country.

While 28-year-old pregnant woman Roopali Jore died last night at a private hospital in Pune where she was kept on a ventilator, 20-year-old Sunil Kumbhar died at Sassoon hospital this evening, health officials said.

Kumbhar had been admitted in a critical condition with symptoms of H1N1 virus at the government hospital this morning, they said, adding that the two deaths in Pune which has suffered the highest number of fatalities so far due to the disease to 27.

With fatalities on the rise and cases of the viral infection continuing to pour in, authorities in Pune have asked private hospitals to screen patients with swine flu symptoms and not to summarily direct them to the already overburdened civic and government hospitals.

Meanwhile, two more persons, including a nine-year-old girl, have succumbed to the deadly virus in Karnataka, pushing up the pandemic toll in the southern state to 26.

Close on the heels of a three-year old boy dying of the virus in Bijapur, a nine-year-old girl fell a victim to the H1N1 influenza at Manipal Hospital here on August 26, health officials said.

The other victim, a 30-year-old woman, succumbed to the virus at Bapuji Hospital in Davangere on August 27.

I think the 9yo and 7yo are different;

Kottayam: The swine flu claimed the life of a 7-year boy, Ansal in Kottayam,The boy had undergone treatment at children?s Hospital, nearby Medical College in Kottayam and was belong to Pathanamthitta Dist. With this death, the statewide flu toll climbed to 3.

Pune Twenty-year-old Sunil Kumbhar died of swine flu on Saturday, taking the Pune toll to 27 in as many days. The first swine flu death in Pune and the country as well ? that of Reeda Shaikh ? had occurred on August 3. Kumbhar was admitted to Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) on Saturday morning with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). He was put on ventilator and passed away at 6.45 pm. Kumbhar was brought to SGH from Talegaon Dabhade in a critical condition on Friday night. Throat swab tests showed that he was a positive H1N1 case.

Pune District Collector Chandrakant Dalvi had appealed to private hospitals on Friday to screen patients who approached them with flu symptoms and not direct them to the already overburdened civic and government hospitals. Dalvi had also asked people to avoid crowding at public places and at Ganesh pandals.
Till date, a total of 2.73 lakh people have been screened and 13,152 people with swine flu symptoms given Tamiflu, Dalvi said. He added that there has been a drop in number of people coming to screening centres and a week?s data shows that 7,000 to 9000 people visited the centres daily of which 300-500 were given Tamiflu
As of now, 64 persons are admitted to private and government hospitals in the city of which 23 are in ICUs.

BANGALORE: With two more persons succumbing to H1N1 flu, the death toll has reaced 25 in Karnataka.


Pooja, 9, from Mallur in Kolar was admitted at Manipal Hospital on Monday and died on Wednesday. But her swab reports confirmed positive on Saturday evening, three days after her death. Rekha, 30, from Davanagere, who was admitted at Bapuji Hospital on August 22, died on Thursday.

Twenty-one patients confirmed positive on Saturday. Thirteen were reported from Bangalore, one from Mysore, three from Belgaum, one from Bijapur, one from Davanagere and one from Bellary. A person in Kolar was also found to be positive.

Bangalore, August 31, 2009: The death toll due to A(H1N1) influenza has touched quarter century in Karnataka with two more confirmed cases reported today. Official sources said here that nine-year-old Pooja from Mallur in Kolar District was admitted to Manipal Hospital on August 24. She died on August 26. But her swab reports confirmed positive yesterday evening.
Thirty year-old Rekha, who was admitted at Bapuji Hospital, Davanagere, on August 22, died on August 27. She also confirmed to have died due to A(H1N1) virus.
Sources said till date as many as 3,38,167 passengers were screened at Bangalore International Airport and 43,037 passengers at Bajpe Airport, Mangalore.
Of the total number of 2,028 suspected cases, samples of which were sent for testing, 447, including 17 today, were confirmed.
Most of the patients were discharged and about 60 people were undergoing treatement at various hospitals in the State, the sources added.
