A case of swine flu has been confirmed at Europe's biggest Army base.
The victim, a soldier at Catterick garrison in North Yorkshire, caught the virus after contact with an infected person outside the base.
He has been isolated in the camp's medical centre and three of his colleagues are being given anti- viral drugs as a precaution.
The recruit reported suffering very mild symptoms and he has been isolated and is responding well to treatment,' said an Army spokesman.
'Three other recruits have been given treatment but nobody else is showing symptoms and it is very much business as usual here at the garrison.'
There are about 12,000 people on the site.
The scare came as a flu expert warned the number of confirmed cases of swine flu in Britain is probably only half of the real total.
'All the experts think that the numbers we've got are a significant underestimate,' said Prof Hugh Pennington, a bacteriologist from Aberdeen University.
He added: 'It would be very reasonable to say we have got at least twice as many cases as we know about and it may be more than that.'
So far, 557 cases of the virus have been confirmed, with Scotland hardest hit per head of population.
Three people are critically ill and on Sunday it emerged one ? a woman in hospital in Paisley, Scotland ? had given birth prematurely.
Her baby is in intensive care but has not contracted the virus.
