Summer camps should not demand notes that children free of swine flu

CALGARY ? A public health official in Alberta says summer camp operators should not demand a medical note proving that children are free from swine flu before they're allowed to attend.
Dr. Richard Musto, a provincial medical health officer in Calgary, says such demands this year from businesses and schools threatened to overwhelm emergency rooms, doctors' offices and schools.
He says some people were being told they needed a medical note or certificate so they could go back to class or work and he's heard similar things about some camps.
Musto says such measures aren't necessary and he hopes parents sending their children to camp aren't pressured for doctor's notes.
In Ontario, several camps are being monitored by health officials after over 200 children fell ill with flu-like symptoms.
Musto says only one child tested positive for the illness at a camp in southern Alberta but none of the other children have become ill.
