There are a lot of detailed posts in the Indonesia thread so I will provide my summary of the information on the recent confirmed human case in Riau.

Muhammad Nabi, from Riau Province, has now been locally confirmed as positive for H5N1 based on two separate tests.

Muhammad Nabi, (31M), had onset of symptoms on October 31, 2007. He is reported variously to be from Desa Babussalam, Desa Balai Makam, Duri, and Simpang Geroga (Groga). These locations are all in the same general area in either Mandau subdistrict or other nearby subdistrict in Bengkalis Regency, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1lace w:st="on"><st1laceName w:st="on">Riau</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">Province</st1laceType></st1lace>. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

He was treated initially at <st1lace w:st="on"><st1laceName w:st="on">Permata</st1laceName> <st1laceName w:st="on">Hati</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">Hospital</st1laceType></st1lace> in Duri district starting on November 3rd. Muhammad is on the administrative staff at this hospital. As he worsened he was taken to RSUD Arifin Achmad in Pekanbaru where he died within a short time after being admitted on November 6th. Muhammand?s wife, Mia (M also reported as N), who is 29 or 30 years old, says on November 6th that she didn?t think that her husband died of bird flu since he had no contact with poultry. <o></o>

On November 6th plans are made to take Muhammad?s body to a burial location in Tebing Tinggi, in <st1lace w:st="on">North Sumatra</st1lace>. Tebing Tinggi is about 250 miles North of Mandau subdistrict.<o></o>

On November 8th, an 8 month old baby (MB) who is reported to be a neighbor of Muhammad Nabi shows signs of influenza infection. The child is initially treated at <st1lace w:st="on"><st1laceName w:st="on">Permata</st1laceName> <st1laceName w:st="on">Hati</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">Hospital</st1laceType></st1lace> in Duri district and is later taken to RSUD Arifin Achmad in Pekanbaru for more treatment and testing. Shortly thereafter U (41), I (23), AI (5) MB's sister, M (20) aunt of MB, and SM (23) who are all neighbor?s of Muhammad Nabi are taken to an isolation ward in Arifin Achmad in Pekanbaru. News reports in the past day or so state that all of these individuals tested negative for bird flu. <o></o>

Sometime after 6th, Mia takes her husband?s body for burial to Tebing Tinggi. During the burial ceremony Mia starts showing influenza symptoms and is taken to <st1laceName w:st="on">Adam</st1laceName> <st1laceName w:st="on">Malik</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">Hospital</st1laceType> in <st1lace w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Medan</st1:City></st1lace>, on November 11th, where they are now treating and testing her. <o></o>

Also, Mia?s 10 month old nephew (NN) is also showing signs of possible influenza and is being treated as well at <st1lace w:st="on"><st1laceName w:st="on">Adam</st1laceName> <st1laceName w:st="on">Malik</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">Hospital</st1laceType></st1lace>. Her nephew is from a nearby subdistrict to Tebing Tinggi and most likely attended the funeral/burial ceremony of Muhammad with her aunt, Mia.<o></o>

Indonesian health officials say a 30 year old woman has been admitted to hospital after showing symptoms of bird flu.

The case comes only days after her husband was confirmed as the 91st bird flu fatality in Indonesia.

Officials say the woman from the island of Sumatra and named Nasniati, was admitted to hospital after showing signs of the H5N1 virus.

The country's bird flu information centre says it's not yet clear if the couple had been in direct contact with infected poultry, a common way for the humans to contract the virus. <!-- PRINT_CONTENT_END -->
