Disease kills 72 in Murnei camps; militia attacks on West Darfur markets
EL GENEINA / KULBUS
(7 Oct.) -

In the Murnei camps for the displaced in West Darfur 72 people have died during the months of August and September from malaria, diarrhoea, typhoid, and malnutrition. The Coordinator of the camps reported to Radio Dabanga that the dead are children, women and elderly.

The Coordinator complained about a shortage of medicines, and the high prices of those medicines that are available. He laments a lack of health care, especially after the expulsion of humanitarian organisations. He appealed to national and humanitarian organisations to speed up the provision of medicine and food to the camps.

Four children die in Murnei hospital, West Darfur
MURNEI
(11 Oct.) -

Four children died on Thursday at West Darfur's Murnei hospital as a result of high fever, diarrhoea, and vomiting. Sources affirm that dozens of other children are currently being treated at the hospital for the same symptoms.

The hospital, which receives ?300 patients daily?, lacks medicines which, when available, cost more than SDG100 ($22.70), one parent told Radio Dabanga. He added that the hospital is ?unable to provide malaria check-ups.?

The coordinator of Murnei camps is demanding that state authorities help them combat the situation, reiterating that 72 people have died in the area during the months of August and September.
