Sudan's Health Ministry announced Tuesday that suspected cholera cases have been detected in four states as the disease continues to spread amid the country's worsening humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing war.

The announcement came during a meeting of the Federal Emergency Operations Center in Khartoum, where officials reviewed the country's public health situation, according to a ministry statement.

The ministry said suspected cholera cases were recorded in North Kordofan, West Kordofan, South Darfur, and Khartoum states, but did not disclose the number of infections.

Cholera Outbreak in Sudan Claims 170 Lives: UN says


The United Nations has warned that a cholera outbreak continues to spread across Sudan, with more than 2,000 suspected cases and 170 reported deaths since May, most of them recorded in the conflict-affected Kordofan region.

In its latest humanitarian update, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said aid agencies are continuing to deliver life-saving assistance despite insecurity and challenging operating conditions.

According to OCHA, humanitarian partners have expanded the cholera response by supporting nearly 80 disease surveillance sites, 16 treatment centres, eight oral rehydration points, and prevention campaigns reaching more than 270,000 people in affected communities...

Sudan doctors warn of cholera resurgence in Khartoum as health crisis deepens

August 8, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s doctors union warned on Saturday of a resurgence of cholera and dengue fever in the capital Khartoum, driven by ongoing fighting, collapsing infrastructure, and contaminated water supplies.

The Preliminary Committee of the Sudan Doctors Union expressed concern that the diseases could rapidly spread to neighbouring states, given the accumulation of waste and severe breakdown of environmental sanitation across the war-torn city.

Dr Adiba Ibrahim Al-Sayyed, an internal medicine and epidemiology specialist with the union, told Reuters that 25 new cholera cases were documented in Khartoum.

The cases include seven in West Omdurman, 11 in the Southern Belt area, and seven in East Nile, Al-Sayyed said, adding that additional uncounted cases were identified in the Al-Ezba area of Khartoum Bahri.​..
