Dengue fever is spreading in Khartoum State’s Bahri city where 384 cases were reported in its southern and central neighbourhoods, the voluntary Emergency Room said on Sunday.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease which can be life threatening if untreated.

Dengue fever threatens Khartoum Bahri
09/04/2024 12:40 BAHRI

In an interview with Radio Dabanga yesterday, Ryan Saleh Eldin denounced the security situation and lack of medicine in Bahri (Khartoum North), where there are over 300 suspected cases of dengue fever. “The humanitarian conditions in Bahri are constantly deteriorating and there are no signs of the current crisis abating,” a doctor from the Bahri Emergency Room told Radio Dabanga yesterday.

“Every day that passes the medicine, food, and water supply situation gets worse. People are forced to drink polluted well water that contains an exceedingly high percentage of salt,” said the doctor.

“Rubbish and corpses are piled up in the streets, and flies and mosquitoes proliferate,” he said, warning that the health situation is about to worsen due to the emergence of vector-borne diseases. Vector-borne diseases are illnesses caused by parasites, viruses, and bacteria transmitted by ‘vectors’, such as mosquitos or ticks. These diseases include malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, zika, chikungunya, and Rift Valley fever.

In Bahri neighbourhoods, 200 cases of dengue fever have been recorded in El Shabia, 20 cases in El Majad, 50 cases in El Sofia, 2 cases in El Dongola, 12 cases in Hamid, and 100 cases in Shambat, according to the doctor.

Eldin stressed that they are currently trying to provide more life-saving medicine to the injured despite the difficult conditions in Bahri, but they have so far failed...

Dengue fever cases surge in Khartoum Bahri amid healthcare shortage

May 5, 2024 (KHARTOUM) – The Khartoum Bahri Emergency Room reported a significant rise in suspected dengue fever cases, nearing 1,000, on Sunday. This surge comes amidst a concerning lack of transparency from the Khartoum State Ministry of Health.

The healthcare system in Sudan is facing immense challenges due to the closure of up to 80% of hospitals in conflict zones. This critically limits the ability to respond effectively to disease outbreaks...

Dengue fever outbreak worsens in Khartoum’s East Nile area

October 2, 2024 (KHARTOUM BAHRI) – A surge in dengue fever cases in Khartoum State’s East Nile area has claimed ten lives and infected 194 people, according to the area’s Emergency Room.

The area, controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since the war began in April 2023, is grappling with a severe health crisis, including shortages of diagnostic tools, blood banks, and essential medicines.

Between Sept. 18 and Sept. 26, the Emergency Room’s medical office recorded 194 dengue cases and 10 deaths in Soba East and Al-Jarif East. An additional 243 cases of unidentified fevers have also been reported, resulting in 10 further fatalities. A lack of diagnostic resources has hampered efforts to identify and confirm dengue and other fevers accurately...
