My thoughts go to all peoples lying in the path of the monster. I hope they stay safe.

Also worrying for us all is whether fukishima is on the storm path or not - those water storage vessels and many other sections of the plant are extremely fragile still....

Additionally, although the typhoon was still generally tracking westward, it noticeably
slowed down due to the weakening subtropical ridge.[20]

Early on October 10, the JTWC downgraded Vongfong to a typhoon

It passes over quite a bit of land before it gets there so should be significantly degraded. Assuming it stays on track.
The wind speed has dropped significantly the last reading was 75kn any lower and it will be downgrade from Typhoon to Tropical Storm.

Vongfong was classified as a super typhoon during the middle of the week as it moved through an area of low wind shear and very warm ocean temperatures but has since lost that title. The tropical system had reached the equivalent strength of a Category 5 hurricane, featuring wind speeds greater than 257 kph (160 mph).

"Vongfong became the strongest tropical cyclone we've had all year anywhere on Earth," AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Jim Andrews said.

The strength of Vongfong earlier surpassed that of Super Typhoon Genevieve which, at its most powerful, had sustained winds of 257 kph (160 mph) in the West Pacific.

Some weakening has brought the strength of Vongfong down to the equivalent of a tropical storm. However, Vongfong still threatens dangerous and life-threatening conditions.

Tritium up 10-fold in Fukushima groundwater after Typhoon Phanfone
JIJI
Oct 12, 2014

The radioactive water woes at the stricken Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant got worse over the weekend after the tritium concentration in a groundwater sample surged more than 10-fold this month.

A spokesman for Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Saturday that heavy rain caused by Typhoon Phanfone probably affected the groundwater after the storm whipped through Japan last week.

Some 150,000 becquerels of tritium per liter were measured in a groundwater sample taken Thursday from a well east of the No. 2 reactor. The figure is a record for the well and over 10 times the level measured the previous week.

In addition, materials that emit beta rays, such as strontium-90, which causes bone cancer, also shattered records with a reading of 1.2 million becquerels, the utility said of the sample...
