First published: 20080903 8:15:23 AM EST
The district health officer Kibaale district Dr. Dan Kyamanywa has indicated that a strange disease suspected to be acute malaria has invaded the district and claimed the lives of seven people.
He says all the symptoms links the disease to a complicated malaria which requires urgent attention.
Dr. Kyamanywa says that his conclusion stems from partial findings from a surveillance conducted by the Midwestern regional coordinator in charge of expanded programme for immunization and malaria control Dr. Michael Mulowooza.
Last week four people who included 2 children died unknowingly while this week 3 people were also buried in Nyakarongo parish Bwikara Sub County after the disease hit the area in Kibaale district.
Dr. Kyamanywa has appealed to the people in the district to always seek for treatment from qualified health workers whenever they fall victims of the disease so that it can be controlled.
He says that all the deaths reported occurred in the villages and the patients did not seek for medical attention from qualified health workers.
The disease that hit Nyakarongo parish in Bwikara Sub County has created a lot of panic among residents who had even threatened to vacate the area for the safety of their lives.
The LC3 Chairperson Bwikara Sub County Luke Kazungu said that the people who have died of the disease show symptoms of Headache, Fever, Vomiting and a white substance from the Mouth and Nose.
