Still No Swine Flu in This Province; Dr. Stratton

Still no reported cases of H1N1 virus in Newfoundland and Labrador, but the province's Chief Medical Officer of Health says that's not to say it isn't here. Dr. Faith Stratton says when the World Health Organization raised the alert level to its highest indicator of pandemic this week, it was not because the virus had grown in intensity. She says it has more to do with the spread of the illness. Stratton says it's important to remain vigilant in cleaning your hands and covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your arm, as oppose to the hands. She says the swine flu, as it's known, remains mild, with influenza like symptoms.
The Public Health Agency of Canada says slightly more than 5% of people found to have the virus have required hospitalization. Stratton says anyone feeling sick should contain their illness and stay home, so as to not spread it to others.

Not surprising that we continue to have no cases yet. Everyday there are revelations about the debacle we call health care here. There are quite a few people around with "flu like" symptoms. Little outside the usual influenza activity time frame for this to be happening. Medical authorities did some testing on a number of people during the first days of the H1N1 outbreak but in 2 or 3 weeks there has not been a single update made public in regards to tests done. But Dr. Stratton did acknowledge Newfoundland remains a statistical abnormality as every other Canadian region now has cases. But with Health Care's and government's dismal record there is little confidence that they actually on top of this health crisis. Indeed, during the opening days of the outbreak the government started a lockout of nurses due to contract disputes. lol...no kidding.....if you can believe it!!! Luckily a full blown strike has since been avoided.
Again, even government seems to be asleep. Their pandemic information site was designed during height of H5N1 concerns. This web page does not contain a SINGLE bit of information or updates on Swine flu. It does not even mention that we have been declared to be in full pandemic.
