More than a dozen towns in Southeastern Massachusetts have been put on alert by the state Department of Public Health, which is concerned about the threat of danger posed by the Eastern equine encephalitis virus carried by mosquitoes.

From Duxbury to Bridgewater and New Bedford, the warning has gone out about the threat of the EEE virus.

Health authorities said they don't want people hiding in their homes for the rest of the summer, but they do want to get the public's attention -- especially residents living in southeastern Massachusetts where they said it is extremely important for the public to use insect repellent before heading outdoors...
