Three more deaths associated with the swine flu have been confirmed by the state, one a Norfolk woman with underlying health problems.
The recently confirmed deaths were announced by State Health Commissioner Karen Remley during a weekly news briefing on H1N1 flu, or swine flu.
Because of privacy concerns, the health department does not identify victims. The other two deaths were a man from the Richmond health district and a woman from the West Piedmont health district; both also had underlying health conditions.
The state has had 27 confirmed deaths related to the pandemic H1N1 flu; five have been from Hampton Roads.
Remley also announced that 1.2 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine have now been allocated to Virginia and that colleges and universities received shipments this week.
The rate of influenza-related illness at emergency rooms and urgent care centers fell from a high of 14 percent in late October to the most recent rate of 5 percent.
