NFL Rams back at work after swine flu scare

(AFP) ? 1 hour ago

ST. LOUIS, Missouri ? Most St. Louis Rams players were back on the practice field Friday, a day after training was called off because some players were diagnosed with swine flu.
Rams quarterback Kyle Boller and rusher Steven Jackson were both absent from Friday workouts with flu-like symptoms, raising doubts if either will be in the lineup for Sunday's National Football League game against the Houston Texans.

Boller missed Wednesday's workout as well, so the Rams likely will start rookie signal caller Keith Null for a second week in a row.

Jackson ranks second in the NFL with 1,279 yards and was expected to play on Sunday as the Rams try to improve on a 1-12 record that matches Tampa Bay for the worst in the league this season.

Rams center Jason Brown said he was among those who had swine flu.

"I felt horrible. I felt like passing out," Brown said. "It attacks you very hard and very fast. Luckily there are anti-viral medications to help you get back on your feet very fast."

Receiver Brandon Gibson and defensive tackle Darell Scott also missed the workout with flu-like symptoms and four other players had their workload reduced.

Brown said he believed he contracted the flu last weekend on an airplane flight and said his conditioning was affected.

"We had some adversity this week but we're out here and we're expected to focus and get ready to play a game," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said.
