Over 100 deaths in Sri Lanka this year due to leptospirosis

Dec 20, Colombo: The Epidemiology Unit of the Sri Lanka Ministry of Health says that 107 deaths have been reported so far during this year due to leptospirosis in the country.

The Epidemiology Unit statistics show that 4,295 people have suffered from leptospirosis so far this year.

The highest number of leptospirosis cases has been reported in October this year. The Unit reported 601 cases for October and 243 cases have been reported for this month up to now.

The number of people dying from rat fever is increasing in Kurunegela due to lack of awareness, Kurunegala inquirer into sudden deaths D.K. Amarasinghe said.
