Gene B. Schur Sr.

SCHUR, Gene B.,Sr. Gene B. Schur, Sr. passed away a few blocks from where he was born on November 23, 2009 due to complications resulting from the H1N1 virus.
Mr. Schur was born in Spokane December 20,1935. He was raised in Spokane and lived there most of his life. He graduated from John R. Rogers High School in 1956. He attended EWU for three years in Liberal Arts. Mr. Schur served in the U.S. Air Force and the Washington Air National Guard. His combined service was nearly 28 years of service to his country and retired as a MSGT. MSGT Schur had tours of duty at several locations within the United States, served four years in Germany and 65 days in SaudiArabia. A second retirement was received from Qwest Communications with 31 years of service as a Central Office Technician. Mr. Schur was a Past Master of North Hill Lodge 210 F. & A. M. in 2001. Also had masonic memberships in the Scottish Rite and the El Katif Shrine. Held life memberships in his masonic lodge, Amateur Radio Relay League, Quarter Century Wireless Association, Amateur Radio Organization in Colfax, WA, and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Schur held an Amateur Radio license W7WDL since 1954. Was also DL4EK in Germany, F7GU in France and KL7GFI in Alaska. In addition to amateur radio he hunted, fished, gardened, square and round danced. He and his wife belonged to the Carrousels, ValIey Cross Trailers, Wagarounds and the URDC. Gene was active many years with the Civil Air Patrol. All in all, Mr. Schur enjoyed life and being with friends There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for someone in need. He felt that "Life is Fun." He gave his wife Sue, the happiest years of her life. Mr. Schur is survived by his wife Susan Schur, sons Gene B. Schur, Jr., stepsons David L. Williams and James I. Williams. Daughters; Grace K. Schur in Rosalia, WA, Edith "Edie" R. Hawotte, Micki S. Firestone and Roberta S. Jewsbury all from Spokane, WA. Visitation will be Friday, November 27, 2009 between 9:00a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME, 4305 N. Division, Spokane, WA. Graveside service with military honors will be held, Monday, November 30, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery, Spokane, WA. Guestbook at www.riplinger.com.
