El pasado 29 de octubre, Jos? Manuel Cort?s Gonz?lez y su esposa Carolina Ribes S?nchez llevaron a su hija de diez meses a Urgencias del Hospital de Maternidad de Granada con fiebre, moco y tos, donde fue desestimada por los facultativos s?lo para morir horas despu?s. La peque?a Sheila ten?a d?cimas de fiebre desde el d?a antes y al ver que suministr?ndole Paracetamol no mejoraba, decidieron llevarla el jueves, 29, a las 13.30 horas al centro de Salud de Albolote, donde viven. Por varias razones, ese d?a no hubo servicios de pediatr?a all?, por lo que se desplazaron hasta la capital y fueron atendidos enseguida.
La doctora en Urgencias les comunic? a los padres que lo m?s probable era que se tratase de un virus estacional y tras hacerle una peque?a revisi?n a la peque?a les dijo que le dieran paracetamol para la fiebre, un medicamento para estimular la funci?n respiratoria y para echar los mocos. Los padres insistieron en que la peque?a ya llevaba dos d?as con fiebre de m?s de 38? y que ten?a historial de s?ndrome de West (epilepsia), por el que estaba siendo tratada. La doctora les repit? que la ni?a estaba bien pero con la garganta un poco roja y, si no mejoraba en 24 horas, que la volvieran a llevar.
Esa tarde la peque?a no mostr? se?ales de mejora y sobre las 21 horas, Carolina le dijo a su marido que volv?an a Urgencias porque la ni?a no estaba bien. Sheila estaba casi sin respirar, con la lengua dada media vuelta y se estaba poniendo morada. El padre le intent? abrir el conducto respiratorio introduciendo su dedo en la garganta de la peque?a. Una vez en el Maternal, los m?dicos le suministraron ox?geno e intentaron cogerle una v?a, pero seg?n los padres la ni?a no ten?a coagulaci?n ni la circulaci?n en condiciones ?ptimas. La paciente fue trasladada a la UCI pero al tener la garganta pr?cticamente cerrada, no pudieron entubarla. Fue entonces cuando la neur?loga les comunic? a los padres que Sheila hab?a muerto. Ten?a un pulm?n totalmente blanco con neumon?a y el otro da?ado por el intento de entubarla pero finalmente no pudieron salvarle la vida.
Tras velar a la peque?a, los padres decidieron que le iban a realizar la autopsia y fue trasladada al Instituto Anat?mico Forense de Granada. El s?bado, una vez finalizada la autopsia, la peque?a fue llevada a la Iglesia de Albolote para su funeral. En ese momento, Jos? recibi? una llamada de la neur?loga del Maternal, quien le comunic? tras hacerle a la ni?a la prueba del moco que se hab?a muerto de gripe A. Los padres acusan a la facultativa de urgencias de pediatr?a del Hospital Maternal que les atendi? de una total negligencia m?dica, por no haberles hecho caso al acudir a este servicio unas horas antes del fallecimiento. La familia ha contratado los servicios de un abogado, Alfonso de Rojas Torres, que exigir? responsabilidades. Por otra parte, los vecinos de Albolote se muestran indignados por que en un pueblo con m?s de 18.000 habitantes s?lo tengan dos facultativas de pediatr?a en el centro de Salud y que cuando las dos est?n fuera a la vez, el SAS no cubra la plaza.
