Also, earlier this year the Ministry and the regional governments agreed in the Committee on Public Health of the National Health System (SNS) the adoption of a protocol epidemiological surveillance Zika and a plan for preparedness and response to these and other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, which in April was ratified in the Interregional Council.

Among other issues, it is recommended to anyone who has been to any area where there is a virus postpone 28 days from returning the unprotected sex with women who are pregnant or intend to be, to avoid possible contagion through semen and given the potential risk of fetal microcephaly that has not yet been confirmed.

Pregnant women who have traveled to countries at risk by Zika virus will undergo blood and urine if returning to Spain presented any symptoms indicative of infection, according to the protocol agreed to follow up with the Spanish Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (SEGO ).

And if confirmed the presence of the virus, serial ultrasound examinations will be made to control the growth and, especially, fetal morphology every two weeks, the contest advanced obstetricians in prenatal ultrasound diagnosis and the suspected diagnosis of fetal infection being essential .
