The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency ( Director Choi Jeong-rok , hereinafter referred to as the Quarantine Agency ) announced that it will strengthen quarantine on heat-treated poultry meat from China after detecting avian influenza (AI) genes (11.13) during the quarantine process of heat-treated poultry meat ( duck ham , 21.8 tons ) imported from China on November 2 , 2025. The meat was discarded and returned . The quantity in question was not distributed domestically , and this detection case is not a live avian influenza (AI) “ virus , ” but a “ gene, ” and infection does not occur with genes alone .
The heat-treated poultry meat in which the avian influenza gene was detected this time was produced at a plant located near the Chinese plant where imports were suspended on August 19 , 2025 due to the detection of the avian influenza gene ( located within the same industrial complex in Inner Mongolia, China ) .
Considering the possibility of local contamination, the Quarantine Headquarters has taken measures to suspend imports not only from the workplace where avian influenza (AI) was detected, but also from all workplaces within the same industrial complex * to prevent domestic influx .
* Workplaces within the industrial complex : 3 locations in total ( 1 location where imports were suspended in August 2025 , 2 locations where imports were suspended in November 2025 )
Additionally , it has been decided to conduct detailed inspections for all heat-treated poultry products produced at the two locations * near the Inner Mongolia Industrial Park in China where the relevant factories are located for the next month .
* Workshops in nearby areas : 7 in Hebei Province , 11 in Liaoning Province
Choi Jeong-rok, head of the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, said , “ We will continue to do our best to prevent the introduction of livestock infectious diseases through thorough quarantine of imported livestock products, including heat-treated poultry . ”
