SEJONG, July 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korea reported two additional deaths from Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) Wednesday, raising the death toll from the viral disease to 35.

One of the deceased was a 50-year-old female patient who had existing health conditions, while the other, 70, was considered to be facing high risks due to old age, according to Ministry of Health and Welfare officials.

Out of the 35 fatalities so far, 32 involved people of old age or those with existing health conditions, including diabetes and cancer, which were apparently worsened by MERS, the ministry has said.

The latest fatalities marked the first of their kind in eight days.

Out of the 186 diagnosed, only 32 remain hospitalized while 119 have been discharged following complete recoveries. The ministry said eight of those still in hospitals are currently in unstable condition.
