Later in the day, an elementary student below the age of 10 tested positive for MERS in the second round of testing.
The student was suspected of having been infected with the disease outside of hospitals where MERS cases were reported or where MERS patients stayed but the government later confirmed that the patient visited a hospital where MERS cases were confirmed last month.
If confirmed, the student would be the first case of a person below the age of 10 to be infected with MERS. Medical authorities have said that it is rare for a child aged 10 or younger to contract the disease.
