(Seoul = News 1) Reporter Na Hye-yoon = The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 2nd that as a result of a close inspection of wild birds (mandarin orange) caught in Cheonan-si (Gokgyocheon), Chungnam, on the 1st, the H5N1 type highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) was confirmed.

It is the first time in seven months since Song Ji-ho (H5N8 type) in Goseong, Gangwon-do on March 30, the first highly pathogenic AI was confirmed in a domestic wild bird.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs upgraded the crisis level to 'serious' and implemented measures to ban radiation breeding and strengthen detailed inspections on poultry farms across the country.


A control post is installed and operated in the detection area to control access to people and vehicles within a 500m radius. Movement restrictions on farms within the quarantine zone (10km), close inspections, and enhanced disinfection measures will also be implemented for 21 days.

As the first confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds during the winter season this year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs urged livestock officials, including poultry farmers, to strictly observe basic quarantine rules.
