SEOUL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Mar, 2020 ) :South Korea confirmed 851 more cases of the COVID-19 on Tuesday, raising the total number of infections to 5,186.

As of 4:00 p.m. local time (0700 GMT), the number of infected patients totaled 5,186, up 851 from 24 hours ago. Five more deaths were reported, lifting the combined death toll to 31.

The fatality rate from the COVID-19 here was 0.6 percent as of midnight local time. The figure gained to 4.0 percent for those in their 70s and 5.4 percent among those in their 80s or higher...

○ As of 5 March, 2020, a total of 5,766 cases have been confirmed with 88 cases already discharged from isolation. The regional distribution and epidemiological links of the confirmed cases are shown in the table below; 69.4% of the total cases have epidemiological links and 30.6% are either under investigation or individual cases.

○ In Daegu, 69.6% of the confirmed cases are Shincheonji cluster. According to the epidemiological investigation, the cases reported in the community centers and health facilities within the city are also related to the Shincheonji members.

○ In Gyeongbuk province, the confirmed cases are identified mainly from community centers and long-term care facilities. 36 cases were newly confirmed in Pureun Nursing Home in Bonghwa. Furthermore, Gyeongsan was designated as Special Management Region due to the recent increase of the confirmed cases.

Seoul, March 5 (IANS) South Korea on Thursday confirmed 322 more cases of the COVID-19, raising the total number of infections to 6,088. Five more deaths were also reported, taking the toll to 41.

The number of infected patients totalled 6,088, up 322 from the previous announcement. The fatality rate from the virus stood at 0.6 per cent, Xinhua reported citing health officials.

The fatality rates rose to 4.5 per cent for those in their 70s and 5.6 per cent in their 80s or higher each.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) has updated the data twice a day at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The virus infection soared for the past 15 days, with 5,735 new cases reported from February 19 to March 4. The country has raised its four-tier virus alert to the highest “red” level...

SEOUL, March 5 (Yonhap) -- Two dependents of U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) personnel have tested positive for the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of USFK-related infection cases to six, the military said Thursday.

The fifth patient is a dependent of an active duty service member and the sixth is the spouse of a U.S. Department of Defense civilian employee, both based in the southeastern city of Daegu, according to USFK.

..Corona 19 test was conducted in the emergency room of Kyungpook National University Hospital on the 20th.

A fever developed on the 27th confirmed the diagnosis after the Corona 19 retest (1921st).

He died at 1:24 pm today at Kyungpook National University Hospital.

He was reported to have had diabetes, hepatocellular carcinoma, chronic kidney disease (not dialysis), arrhythmia, and myocardial infarction (2011), and health authorities are investigating the exact cause of death.

The 41st death in Korea and the 13th death in Gyeongbuk are women aged 86.

According to Gyeongsangbuk-do, the patient died at the Qingdao County Senior Citizens' Nursing Hospital at 10 am on the 4th.

The patient was referred to Corona19 diagnostic tests on the 3rd and confirmed after death.

The confirmed case after the death in Gyeongbuk was added to record the 41st death of Corona19.

It is said to have suffered from dementia, and health authorities are investigating the exact cause of death.

This resulted in the 41st death in Korea, and the total death toll surpassed 39.

The 42nd death in Korea and the 28th death in Daegu is a 66 year old male.

SEOUL, March 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has denied local news reports that it has provided masks to North Korea to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

A local TV station carried the report with video footage showing a medical worker in North Korea wearing a dental mask with the logo of a South Korean brand. The report sparked speculation that the government may have delivered South Korean masks to the North.

"The government has not provided any masks to North Korea regarding the coronavirus situation, and no nongovernmental organization from South Korea has applied for the delivery of masks to assist the North," Yoh Sang-key, the unification ministry's spokesperson, said in a press briefing.

SEOUL, March 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea reported 518 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, bringing the nation's total number of infections to 6,284, with most new virus infections still spiking in the southeastern city of Daegu, the epicenter of the virus outbreak here, and neighboring North Gyeongsang Province.

So far, 42 people, mostly elderly patients with underlying illnesses, have died in South Korea from the respiratory virus that emerged in China late last year, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said...

S. Korea's COVID-19 cases rise to 6,593, death toll at 43

SEOUL - South Korea confirmed 309 more cases of the COVID-19 on Friday, raising the total number of infections to 6,593.

As of 4:00 p.m. local time, the number of infected patients totalled 6,593, up 309 from the previous announcement as of midnight. One more death was reported, lifting the death toll to 43.

Among the patients, 31 were in critical conditions, raising a possibility for fatality increase.

South Korea appears to have more confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) than other countries due to its high diagnostic capability, according to health experts.

A report titled, “The current status of COVID-19 and its problems” published by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs shows that South Korea has tested a total of 75,792 people for COVID-19 as of Monday while Japan and the U.S. have tested only 2,517 and 472, respectively. The number of South Korea’s confirmed cases of COVID-19 stood at 4,212 and 5.6% of people tested have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The figure is almost twice as high in Japan with the confirmed cases of COVID-19 standing at 239 despite the fact that much fewer people are being tested.

South Korean health authorities have argued that the country has a high number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 because it is testing more people at a faster pace. “We’ve made more prompt efforts than any other countries to prevent the spread of the disease,” said Kim Kang-lib of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on Friday. “We’re preemptively testing a higher percentage of population than that of any other countries for the early detection of the disease.”..

DAEGU, March 7 (Yonhap) -- Residents at an apartment tower in the southeastern city of Daegu have entered cohort isolation following group infections, Daegu city officials said Saturday.

The first cohort isolation at an apartment block came after 46 were infected with the COVID-19 virus in the residential complex where 141 people live, according to officials of the city where the largest numbers of infections have occurred in the country.

The city government said it has sent text messages to residents notifying them of a full entry and exit ban, which applies to all residents and delivery workers.

The apartment block, which consists of two five-story buildings, is run by the city for unmarried women who are under 35 years old. A total of 141 people live in 137 flats.

...Aside from Daegu and North Gyeongsang, cases of community spread with unknown origins, mostly cluster and sporadic outbreaks, are gradually on the rise. Seoul's confirmed cases rose by four to 105, with 14 cases linked to Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital in Eunpyeong Ward. Another 13 cases in Seoul came from an apartment building in Seongdong Ward.

Virus cases in Busan rose by three to 95, with 33 patients linked to a Christian church in the Dongnae district and another nine patients linked to Shincheonji. The 33 patients of the Oncheon church in Busan are tied to the church's three-day retreat that ended on Feb. 17, officials said. It is still unclear how they were infected with the virus.

In the central cities of Cheonan and Asan, 58 of the total 92 patients were tied to a Zumba dance class last month in Cheonan, officials said.
