Xinhua News Agency reported on February 23 that the number of confirmed cases of new crown pneumonia in South Korea rose sharply for many consecutive days. As of 4 pm on the 23rd, the number of confirmed cases has reached 602, and the number of deaths has increased to five.
In addition to a church in Daegu, where 329 people have been diagnosed, the Daejeon Hospital in Cheongdo, Gyeongsangbuk-do has also become a "hit area." According to South Korean media reports, 111 patients were diagnosed with new crown pneumonia associated with the hospital, of whom 3 died.
South Korean health authorities are investigating the route of infection in these confirmed patients. It is understood that the 31st confirmed patient who was considered a "super communicator" had visited the hospital in early February. The reason for the outbreak of concentrated infections is that people in the medical community speculate that the hospital's psychiatric inpatient area is closed management and no timely response measures were taken or the main reason.
Chiang Dao Danan Hospital is a general hospital mainly for elderly diseases. The majority of inpatients are elderly people. The hospital's psychiatric inpatient building is mostly multi-personal and closed management, with a total of 102 inpatients and 99 confirmed.
The first patient with suspected symptoms at this hospital was an inpatient in a psychiatric department. The patient died on the 21st after the diagnosis and was the second death in South Korea.
South Korean health authorities disclosed that the patient developed sore throat and fever on the 11th. The patient's body temperature was 38.6 ? C that day, and the body temperature fluctuated between 37.7 ? C and 38.5 ? C the next day (12th). Pneumonia symptoms began to appear on the 14th. On the 17th, the patient's temperature was still around 37.8 ? C. He was taken to a university hospital in Daegu because of a suspected myocardial infarction, but the guardian insisted that he should be treated in Danan Hospital, and then returned to Danan Hospital. On the 21st, the patient was diagnosed with the new crown virus and was transferred to the Busan University Hospital, but died unfortunately.
Around 15 days during the period when the patient developed symptoms of infection, several inpatients in his inpatient building also developed symptoms such as fever.
According to the hospital staff, the hospital did not take relevant measures after some inpatients and medical staff appeared suspicious symptoms one after another. It was not until the first death (also inpatients at the hospital) on the 19th that the hospital began to pay attention to testing those with suspected symptoms. As a result, the number of confirmed cases is rising rapidly.
Yonhap believes that the special nature of closed management of psychiatric inpatient areas and the delay in hospital response have led to the current out of control of the speed and scale of virus spread (TV series).
A medical source said with regret: "When the first suspected symptoms appeared on the 11th, it would be nice if the hospital medical staff could use more snacks."
At present, the psychiatric inpatient area of the hospital has been collectively isolated.
