SEOUL, July 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Wednesday reported its first African swine fever (ASF) case in about four months.

The latest ASF case was found at a farm located in the inter-Korean border county of Paju in Gyeonggi Province, which raises some 2,500 pigs, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

It was the fourth such case this year, with the previous one occurring in the city of Yangju in March.​..

​South Chungcheong Province has confirmed its first outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF), prompting emergency quarantine measures by authorities.

The provincial government announced on the 25th that a pig farm in Songsan-myeon, Dangjin City, tested positive for ASF after two pigs died on the 17th–18th, followed by four additional deaths on the 23rd–24th. The farm, which raises 463 pigs, submitted samples for testing upon veterinary recommendation.

The Chungnam Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory examined six pigs, including one deceased and 14 from the same pen, confirming all six as ASF-positive at 8 a.m. on the 25th. The deceased pigs were identified as 24-week-old pigs introduced on the 4th from a breeding farm in Hapcheon, Gyeongsangnam Province.

Following the province’s first ASF case, authorities alerted local governments, the Korea Pork Association, and pig farms. An initial response team was deployed to restrict access to the affected farm and impose movement controls on livestock. Four checkpoints within 3 km of the farm are enforcing entry restrictions.

Disinfection is underway at 28 pig farms within a 10 km radius. The province and Dangjin City plan to cull 960 pigs from the affected farm and two others owned by the same farmer...

SEOUL – South Korea on Jan 17 confirmed its first case of African swine fever (ASF) in about two months, prompting the authorities to cull thousands of pigs and issue a standstill order to prevent the virus from spreading.

The outbreak was detected at a farm in Gangneung, about 170km east of Seoul in Gangwon Province, according to the provincial government.

The authorities said 29 of 32 pigs that died at the facility on Jan 16 tested positive for the virus, which is fatal to pigs but harmless to humans.

It is the first confirmed case in the country since November, when an outbreak was reported in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province...

Authorities are restricting access to farms in eight cities and regions in Gyeonggi after receiving reports of African swine fever (ASF), which were confirmed at two pig farms in Pocheon and Anseong. The pigs could be culled depending on the results of the analysis.

The latest case of the disease was confirmed on Saturday at a pig farm in Pocheon, according to the Central Accident Management Headquarters for ASF.​


Authorities dispatched an initial response team and epidemiological investigators to the site and restricted access to the farm by outsiders and vehicles. A temporary standstill order was also issued for workers and vehicles at pig farms and slaughterhouses in eight neighboring cities and counties.

The Pocheon city government activated its disaster response headquarters and deployed its own initial response team in coordination with the central authorities. The city immediately blocked all access to the infected farm and set up control posts in the surrounding area to monitor traffic and conduct an epidemiological investigation into anyone who potentially came in contact with the virus.

[FONT=바탕]Second , a temporary standstill order was issued for workers and vehicles at livestock facilities such as pig farms , slaughterhouses , and feed factories nationwide for 24 hours from 2:30 PM on Wednesday , February 4 , 2026 to 2:30 PM on Thursday, February 5 , and compliance is being monitored .

[FONT=바탕]This outbreak farm is located 800m from the 58th outbreak farm in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province , which occurred on January 24, 2026 , and was confirmed during a preliminary inspection of pig farms within the quarantine area (10km) currently under movement restrictions .

[FONT=바탕]To prevent the spread of ASF, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has dispatched an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to the farm in question to control the entry of outsiders, livestock , and vehicles into the farm . [FONT=바탕]In order to prevent the spread of African swine fever, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters will pursue further strengthened quarantine measures, including ① simultaneous inspection of carcasses from pig farms nationwide , ② inspection of pigs shipped to slaughterhouses , and ③ continuous surveillance of disease-specific samples using private inspection agencies .

[FONT=바탕]First , we will conduct comprehensive inspections of all pig farms nationwide (5,300 locations ) by February 28th to prevent the spread through early detection . To this end, we plan to conduct the inspection primarily on carcasses, where the inspection is highly effective, and then target high -risk breeding farms ( 150 locations ) and breeding farms (271 farms ) , before gradually expanding to general farms .

[FONT=바탕]Second , we will strengthen the early detection system by conducting inspections on pigs shipped to 69 slaughterhouses nationwide in parallel with the nationwide inspection of pig farms ( carcasses ) . We plan to conduct inspections on 1,000 farms starting February 12th .

[FONT=바탕]Third , we will expand the participation of private testing agencies . We plan to conduct regular surveillance and testing on samples submitted to private testing agencies for the purpose of early disease diagnosis from pig farms nationwide , and to conduct African swine fever testing even when submitted for similar diseases .[/FONT][/FONT][/FONT][/FONT] [TABLE="width: 946"]

This year , ASF has been occurring sporadically , mainly in South Chungcheong Province , North Jeolla Province , South Jeolla Province , and South Gyeongsang Province, regions where ** no cases had occurred before . From January 26 to February 6 , the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety cracked down on the distribution and sale of illegally imported livestock products at 53 foreign food retailers nationwide , and detected 4 items of undeclared livestock products ( processed pork products ) at 1 location , and ASF virus genes were detected in 3 of these items .[/FONT]

[FONT=바탕]We are investigating the possibility of transmission through feed and additives ( such as pig blood meal ) that use raw materials such as pig blood . Livestock transport vehicles entering the farms will also be included in this inspection .

[FONT=바탕]Second , we will strengthen the surveillance and inspection system by utilizing private inspection agencies * . We will inspect pigs (1,000 households ) shipped to 69 pig slaughterhouses nationwide for ASF , and establish a system for continuous surveillance and inspection of disease diagnosis samples commissioned to private inspection agencies, and gradually expand this system .

By inspecting the quarantine management status of each city and county , such as whether farms are properly operating quarantine facilities , whether enhanced quarantine facilities are installed and operated , and whether Stage 2 disinfection and quarantine rules ( including administrative orders ) are being followed, the possibility of ASF spread will be blocked .[/FONT]

To prevent further spread , a total of 12,821 pigs at the affected farms will be culled . In addition, emergency quarantine measures such as disinfection and epidemiological investigations are also being implemented .

[FONT=바탕]Second , from 00:00 on Friday , February 13, 2026 to 00:00 on Sunday , February 15 , 2026 , a temporary standstill order has been issued for workers and vehicles at livestock-related facilities , including pig farms , slaughterhouses , and feed factories across the country, for 48 hours in 8 cities and counties in North Jeolla Province ( Jeongeup , Buan , Gimje , Gochang , Sunchang , Imsil , Wanju , Muju ), 1 city in South Jeolla Province ( Jangseong ) , 1 city in North Chungcheong Province ( Yeongdong ), 5 cities and counties in South Chungcheong Province ( Hongseong , Seosan , Yesan , Cheongyang , Boryeong ), 5 cities and counties in North Gyeongsang Province ( Gimcheon , Sangju , Gumi , Chilgok , Seongju ) , and 1 city and county in South Gyeongsang Province (Geochang) , and compliance is being checked .

SEOUL, Feb. 14 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Saturday confirmed the 15th case of African swine fever (ASF) this season, prompting quarantine authorities to step up efforts to prevent further infections during the five-day Lunar New Year holiday.

The new case was reported at a pig farm in the county of Changnyeong in South Gyeongsang Province, some 263 kilometers southeast of Seoul, according to the central disaster management headquarters for ASF.

Authorities dispatched quarantine officials to the affected farm to conduct an epidemiological investigation and restricted access to the site. All pigs at the farm will be culled to prevent further spread.

They urged owners and employees of pig farms and butcheries to fully comply with quarantine and standstill guidelines to curb the spread of the animal disease.

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok issued an emergency directive on January 14 for thorough quarantine measures following an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) at a pig farm in Changnyeong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province.

The Prime Minister's Office said Kim received a briefing on the ASF situation and instructed the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to "implement quarantine measures without disruption according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), including access control at affected farms, livestock culling, and intensive disinfection."

Kim also ordered the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to "ensure thorough inspection of fences around the affected farm area and conduct comprehensive searches for wild boar carcasses and capture operations."

The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of National Defense to "conduct self-disinfection of military vehicles and equipment at border areas with frequent access to the Civilian Control Line (CCL), and cooperate with disinfection of major roads north of the CCL and wild boar capture and search operations."

He instructed the Ministry of Employment and Labor to educate foreign workers in the livestock industry on necessary measures, including the prohibition of bringing illegal livestock products onto farms.
