Flu conditions remains widespread in South Carolina, with dozens more hospital cases seen and the death toll rising, health officials reported today.

Three more ?lab confirmed? deaths were recorded for December, the Department of Health of Environmental Control said...

Two more deaths have been attributed to the flu in South Carolina, bringing the total to 15 so far this season, state health officials reported today.

And 862 people have been hospitalized with the flu since Sept. 30, 221 of them during the week of Dec. 23-29. according to the state Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Of the deaths, 12 were among people 65 and older, two were among people 50 to 64, and one was a child younger than 5...

James Island woman dies from flu complications

...The elderly woman who tested positive for flu died one day after complaining of not feeling well, the Charleston County coroner?s office reported.

Through Saturday, an additional 15 flu-related fatalities have been reported in South Carolina since late September...

...The James Island woman, 73, was otherwise healthy, said Chief Deputy Coroner Bobbi Jo O?Neal. On Saturday, the woman felt weak and dizzy. She passed away at home on Sunday, O?Neal said.

The woman tested positive for Type A flu, the predominant strain of influenza seen this year...
