Members of an Ottawa soccer team were in Dallas when the tornadoes hit, including the son of the man responsible for the city?s emergency planning

?She said do you know what?s happening in Dallas? Tornadoes are touching down.?
That started a flurry of calls, none of which could reach Michael. He had followed his father?s advice and turned his cellphone off to avoid roaming charges. For almost two hours, there was no news.

Eventually another parent got through to someone on the team and reported that all were well. Nine players and four adults had spent the day sightseeing. They had just visited the infamous ?grassy knoll? at the Kennedy assassination site when they noticed shop owners hastily closing down. When they asked why, they were told there was a severe storm warning with suggestions that tornadoes might be on the way.
?We got back in our vehicle ? and there were signs all along the highway ? ?Tornado warning, seek shelter right away,?? said team manager Dean Lawrence. He dropped the players off at the hotel and went to a nearby gas station.?I looked to the east and suddenly the skies were pitch black, almost like midnight. The wind started to pick up.?...
