A few simple GIS applications put together to get some situational awareness
in Haiti http://haiti.ushahidi.com/main
Stuart Moffat, UofColorado Hazard Centre grad student, just
launched a web app to let friends and family find the shaking intensity
for addresses in Haiti affected by the earthquake. The shaking intensity
and description may help them get an idea of damages if they aren't able
to contact their loved ones.
Please spread the word via email, twitter, other social apps: http://haiti-quake.appspot.com/
Re: Some useful links- GIS/situational/shaking intensity
The Huffington Post had an article on the progress to date on work done by Ushahidi in Haiti. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/17/student-volunteers-map-cr_n_502957.html
I followed up exploring information on the group at their web site http://www.ushahidi.com/
THe work has expanded beyond locating missing persons to assisting matching needs with relief resources.
Fascinating technology and people involved that shares a lot with the goals and methods of flutrackers.
