S. Korea reports first outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease

South Korea confirmed an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) Thursday for the first time in over three years.
The confirmation came one day after a suspected case was reported at a pig farm in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
"A close examination confirmed an outbreak of FMD at the Uiseong farm," the ministry said in a short statement.
The test also confirmed the latest outbreak was caused by type O strain of the animal disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals, including cows and sheep...
Korea reports second case of FMD in N. Gyeongsang-do Province

Korea has confirmed another case of foot-and-mouth disease signaling a spread of the highly infectious animal disease may have already begun.
The agriculture ministry said Monday that a second outbreak was confirmed at a pig farm in Goryeong, North Gyeongsang-do Province.
This comes just four days after the country confirmed its first outbreak of FMD in over three years at a pig farm in nearby county Uiseong.
All animals and vehicles at the farm in Goryeong have been placed under a temporary lockdown to prevent possible spreading of the disease...
