One of the deadliest outbreaks of infection to hit a South African hospital in five years has killed at least 13 babies in Eastern Cape.

News of the outbreak was kept from the public by the health authorities.

An investigation by The Times's sister newspaper, the Daily Dispatch, has revealed that killer superbugs raged through wards for newborns at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in January, claiming 29 infants - twice the hospital's usual mortality rate...
