Smallpox jab giants kiss and make up
SMALLPOX jab giants Acambis and Bavarian Nordic have kissed and made up following their acrimonious dispute over who had rights to a modified vaccine given to those unable to take the full-strength dose, although it looks as though BV is the victor.
Bavarian Nordic will now let Cambridge-based Acambis have a licence to some of its patents in return for Acambis handing over an undisclosed payment, plus royalty and milestone payments on any new products using patented material.
The smallpox jabs business is worth billions of dollars as the US Government continues to stock up against the eventuality of a bioterrorism attack.
Acambis has already had the lion's share of the business with its standard vaccine.
