Posted on November 24, 2020
A highly pathogenic avian influenza, also called bird flu, has been confirmed in a swan found in the municipality of Piran, the National Veterinary Institute (NVI) has confirmed. This is the case of H5N8, which is not dangerous to humans, reads the notification of the Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection Administration (UVHVVR). Avian influenza is a highly contagious viral disease that can affect all types of birds.
It is transmitted by contact of healthy animals with the sick, their secretions (nasal and ocular discharge, saliva, feces) and infected thermally untreated products (eggs, meat). In addition, the disease also spreads through contaminated feed, water and bedding. They point out that humans are also important in the spread of the disease, as they can transmit it through contaminated footwear, equipment and means of transport.
