The patient is a woman hospitalized in Presov in Eastern Slovakia, who returned from South America with symptoms of unspecified virus without serious development.

"Samples of urine and blood were taken from the patient today in order to identify the presence of Zika virus," said the hospital's spokesperson Renata Cenkova, adding that the samples are now to be analyzed in cooperation with a laboratory in Hamburg, Germany...

A Slovak woman returning from South America was confirmed as the first case of the Zika virus in the country, Slovak Health Minister Viliam Cislak said on Wednesday.

"Test results of the patient hospitalized with a suspected Zika virus last week in Presov, eastern Slovakia, were positive," Cislak told reporters.

"The patient is in good health and does not require further treatment," he said.
