EPIDEMIOLOGICAL COMMENTS
Through our ongoing biosurveillance, 1 dead wild boar was found in a nature park in North-West Singapore. African Swine Fever (ASF) virus DNA was detected from the carcass by real-time PCR and confirmed by sequencing. Singapore has no domestic pig production, nor are pigs kept as pets. Singapore has captive pigs which are held within a zoological collection. We are monitoring these animals, and there have been no reports or evidence of ASF in these animals. We will euthanize sick wild boars on animal welfare grounds.

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL COMMENTS
African Swine Fever (ASF) viral DNA was detected in diseased imported pigs, as part of an investigation into elevated mortalities in this consignment of animals. Imports from the affected source have been stopped. All pigs in the imported consignment have been slaughtered.
The slaughterhouse and lairage will be cleaned and disinfected before resuming operations. Note: This event constitutes a first occurrence of African swine fever in the country in domestic pigs (imported). The date of last occurrence in this report (24/02/2023) indicates the date when the disease in wild boars was declared stable by Singapore and when reporting was decided to be made through the six-monthly reports. This report was initially submitted on 20th April 2023, however, for technical reasons it had to be re-entered on 2nd May, hence the current report date.
