Singapore records first dengue death of 2015

A Chinese national in Singapore has become the first dengue fever-related fatality of the year in the city-state.

The 53-year-old woman died Monday at the National University Hospital (NUH), according to local media accounts.
She lived on West Coast Road, which is the site of an active seven-case dengue cluster, the report notes.
To date, the National Environmental Agency of Singapore has recorded 1490 dengue cases since the beginning of the year.

Dengue cases in Jan-May 2015 fell 45% as compared to last year: NEA
However, the National Environment Agency noted that there has been an increase in the Aedes mosquito population and increase in the transmission of the DENV-2 dengue virus serotype.

SINGAPORE: There has been a 45 per cent drop in dengue cases between January and May this year, as compared to the same period last year, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) on Monday (Jun 15).

A total of 3,309 cases were reported between January and May this year, as compared to 6,015 cases reported in the same period last year.

However, the NEA said that there has been an increase in the Aedes mosquito population...

SINGAPORE: Despite efforts by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and members of the Bishan community to curb a dengue outbreak, there have been 131 dengue cases reported in the Bishan North area since the clusters formed. Three weeks ago, when a red alert was raised, that number stood at 42...

...Statistics from the NEA?s dengue website show that 242 dengue cases were reported island-wide in the week of 27 June - 34 cases more than the previous week. With the number of cases on the rise, the NEA is urging people to play their part to help stem dengue transmission.

Singapore is entering its traditional dengue peak season with a total of 272 dengue cases reported in the week ending Jul 11, says NEA.

SINGAPORE: A total of 272 dengue cases were reported in the week ending Jul 11, the highest number recorded in a week this year.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) website also showed that it is an increase of 30 cases from the previous week...

Visiting 60-year-old Indian national dies from dengue fever; second death this year

SINGAPORE - Dengue fever has claimed a second life here this year.

A 60-year-old female Indian national, who had been in Singapore to visit her son, died from the disease on Saturday at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).

The first dengue victim of 2015 was a 53-year-old Chinese national who died from the disease in February at the National University Hospital. She had been living in West Coast Road, an active seven-case dengue cluster then.

Singaporean man, 79, dies from dengue fever; third death this year

SINGAPORE - An elderly Chinese Singaporean man has become the third person this year to succumb to dengue fever.

The 79-year-old died on Saturday (Nov 28), according to a joint press release by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and National Environment Agency (NEA) on Sunday afternoon.

Singaporean woman, 59, dies from dengue fever ; fourth death this year

SINGAPORE - A 59-year-old Singaporean woman has become the fourth person to die of dengue fever here this year.

The woman, who lived at Jalan Minggu in Upper Thomson, was admitted to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital on Monday (Dec 7) and died two days later, the Ministry of Health and National Environment Agency (NEA) said in a joint statement on Thursday (Dec 10).

Sharp rise in dengue cases last week

Dengue cases rose sharply at the end of last year. The week of Dec 27 to Jan 2 saw 455 cases - the highest for the year and 86 more than in the previous week.

It brings the total number of people infected last year to more than 11,000, with four dying from this mosquito-borne viral disease...
