Singapore-based biomed company sends bird flu test to Turkey

Turkey has been one of the European countries hardest hit by the avian flu virus, with an outbreak last year leading to four teenagers' deaths and 2.5 million birds culled.
Rockeby, based in Singapore, with offices in Australia, has obtained registration approval from Turkey's Agricultural Ministry for its avian flu test.
Rockeby's managing director, Dr. Sze-Wee Tan, said that since registration had been approved, an immediate order of 8000 tests would be supplied to Banvit, which represents 90% of Turkey's poultry industry, with a 240,000 birds per day capacity at its processing plant in Bandirma. The initial order will be followed by a bi-monthly supply of 8000 over the next year.
"We are pleased to be co-operating with Banvit in monitoring the outbreaks of bird flu in Turkey by supplying our avian flu test kits," Dr Tan said.
In 2006, Rockeby sold over 300,000 tests to bodies including the Romanian government, the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations, and the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture. In November, the company signed a conditional agreement for a strategic investment in Chinese company, Beijing Anheal Laboratories Co. Ltd ., which if finalised would give Rockeby access to the world's largest poultry market.
