"This is a worrying trend as we are only in April, and we expect a surge in the number of dengue cases in the coming months," said Ms Fu. She was speaking at the 2022 edition of the Public Health Council's Keep Clean, Singapore! campaign launch.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) has said that Singapore is currently facing a serious dengue situation and could see a major outbreak this year...

SINGAPORE: The National Environment Agency (NEA) has urged everyone to take “immediate action” as dengue cases in June are expected to break a weekly record high.

“Singapore is currently facing a serious dengue situation, as the reported number of weekly dengue cases continues to rise sharply,” the agency said in a news release on Friday (Jun 3).

“This number is expected to hit another historical peak, surpassing the highest weekly figure of 1,787 cases seen in 2020, and may even exceed 2,000 in the month of June, which is just the beginning of the traditional peak dengue season.”...

SINGAPORE – A total of 30,969 dengue cases have been reported here so far in 2022, as at last Friday – almost six times that of the whole of 2021.

Weekly figures also remain high, leading the authorities to warn that the elevated numbers could portend another outbreak in 2023.

In an update on the dengue situation on Monday, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said that although weekly dengue cases had declined by about 80 per cent from the peak in May, when they hit a high of 1,568, the current tally of between 200 and 300 new cases each week was still high for this time of year.

This was about 20 per cent more than the average number of cases reported for the same period in the preceding three years, it added...

SINGAPORE – The number of dengue cases in Singapore in 2022 looks set to be the second highest on record, based on figures on the National Environment Agency (NEA) website.

As at 3pm on Dec 30, 32,097 dengue cases had been reported – amounting to 91 per cent of the record high of 35,315 cases recorded in 2020. The previous annual record high was in 2013, when there were 22,170 cases.

NEA has previously attributed 2022’s high number of cases to the DenV-3 strain of the dengue virus, against which the population here has lower immunity.

Observers pointed to other possible reasons for the high number.

Climate conditions and temperature changes could have resulted in more mosquitoes here, said dengue expert Tikki Pang, a visiting professor at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine...
