Three-fold rise in number of chikungunya cases in Singapore

THE chikungunya outbreak appears to have taken hold in Singapore, with over 60 reported cases of infection within this month alone.

This brings the year?s total to 184, more than three times the number of cases that were reported over the past three years.

The infections currently appear to be centred in the industrial areas of Sungei Kadut and Bukit Timah Road...

The dengue fever epidemic appears to be on the decline, but the spread of another mosquito-borne disease is still going strong.

Close to 500 people have been infected with chikungunya this year - compared with a total of 60 cases in the three years between 2010 and last year...
