11 midwives & nurses have been quarantined in Kenema, e/ ‪#‎SierraLeone‬ after a woman tested positive for Lassa Fever, hospital sources say. She'd been delivered of her baby and bled ceaselessly prompting suspicions. The sources say the health workers had protective clothing on, and are so far not showing any signs of the disease. The baby is also under observation.

Sierra Leone News:11 Nurses quarantined in Kenema over Lassa fever scare

11 Nurses at the Government hospital in Kenema have been put under quarantine following the death of a pregnant woman they had aided to deliver.

The woman, Baindu Fofanah was brought from Nyeyama village in Jawei Chiefdom in Kailahun district on 17th July 2016. The nurses had taken part in the woman?s child delivery.

The Hospital Secretary, Joseph T. Kamara confirmed this to Awoko stating that the eleven nurses would be quarantined for 21 days and would be observed on a daily basis.

Kamara said Baindu was a referral case of obstetric, but that sooner she was admitted; she developed ?high fever? and signs of labor. He said she was taken into the labor room and delivered safely. But that immediately afterwards, her condition worsened and was deteriorating rapidly. He said blood samples were taken from her and that the test results proved she was Lassa fever positive. She died a couple of minutes later, Mr. Kamara disclosed, but indicated that the new-born baby was alive and well.
