Sierra Leone Vice President self-quarantines after ebola kills bodyguard

(Reuters) - Sierra Leone's Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana said on Saturday that he had placed himself in a 21-day quarantine after one of his bodyguards died of Ebola amid a worrying recent surge in new infections in the West African nation. Cases of Ebola, which has killed nearly 10,000 people in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea during a year-long epidemic, have fallen off sharply in recent weeks.

President explained that one of his staff (security detail) died on Thursday 26th February. This guard had stopped working a week earlier but he (VP Samsumana) was not notified by then. Apparently the young man became exposed to the virus at one of his homes in Portee...

The Vice President said that after the burial on Thursday he was notified, and given the rules and regulations that government had imposed ?I cannot compromise, so from Friday I decided to put myself into quarantine and I have asked everybody even my Mother to stay away. I do not want to endanger the lives of anyone.?
