Sierra Leone News : President Koroma Honestly Addresses World Bank on Ebola

The honest nature of Sierra Leone's Head of State which has endeared him to many, was glaring to all on October 9th 2014, when in his address to a major international forum, His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, refused to state the death figures announced by his Health Ministry. It can be recalled that the death figures have subjected the country to much ridicule within international scientific circles as they were too low.

President Koroma told the World Bank's high level Round Table meeting that his country had recorded over 2,500 cases of Ebola infections but has only 530 survivors so far.

President Koroma then stopped short of announcing death numbers which are now widely seen as gravely under-reported with a dishonest intent to downplay the seriousness of the crisis by certain Health Ministry officials.

This Round Table is very important for us, the fight on the ground in Sierra Leone urgently needs the support of people gathered here today to combat this virus; without you we cannot succeed, without your quick response, a tragedy unforeseen in modern times would threaten the wellbeing and compromise the security of people everywhere.
