SIERRA LEONE
EVD transmission remains very concerning in Sierra Leone, with the country reporting 435 confirmed cases in the
past week. Much of this was driven by intense transmission in the capital of Freetown, which reported 115 new
confirmed cases and remains one of the worst affected cities in this outbreak (figure 3). The western districts of
Bombali (90 confirmed cases) and Port Loko (64 confirmed cases) and the western rural area of the country (75
confirmed cases) remain key drivers of the rise in incidence in the country.

Transmission is also persisting in Tonkolili, which reported 30 confirmed cases in the past week, and Koinadugu,
which reported 10 confirmed cases in that period. However, there is more evidence of a recent decline in the
number of cases reported weekly in Kenema and Kailahun. The districts reported 10 and 4 new confirmed cases
respectively in the past week.

Re: Sierra Leone - Ebola outbreak: 4,864 clinical cases including 1,468 deaths as of Nov 5th, 2014 (MOH Update Nov 5th)

I'm not sure what is going on with the Sierra Leone numbers, but it seems that the information from Liberia and Sierra Leone is becoming less reliable, when cases and deaths are decreased by 500 with no explanation.

big increase. Not only 111 confirmed cases but also 47 suspected ones
and another 45 confirmed cases are included in the cumulative counts
the numbers don't add to the sums given)

203 new cases, while the daily average in the first 5 days of this week
was only 44 (and it started to look like we were post-peak)

Ebola cases in Sierra Leone show sharp rise

Lisa O'Carroll
Monday 10 November 2014 08.32 EST
...
The number of new cases of Ebola in Sierra Leone has jumped dramatically, putting paid to any hopes that the infection rate is slowing.

Official figures released by the minister of health and sanitation show there were 111 new cases registered on Sunday, the highest daily rate since the ministry started publishing figures in August.

There were 45 new cases the day before, including 24 in the capital, Freetown. Laboratory results for patients in Freetown, which include the new British army-built Ebola hospital, showed 40 new cases on Sunday.

There was also a spike in the number of cases in Port Loko, a district north of Freetown where there is still no treatment centre and where, until recently, corpses were left lying on verandahs, in hospitals and in houses for days before collection.

The figures come days after warnings by the UN that Ebola cases in Sierra Leone are being underreported by up to 50%.

SIERRA LEONE
EVD transmission remains high in Sierra Leone, with 421 new confirmed cases reported in the week to 9
November. Much of this was driven by intense transmission in the country?s west and north. Transmission
remains intense in the capital Freetown, which reported 77 new confirmed cases in the past week (figure 3). High
levels of activity also persist in the nearby Bombali and the Western rural area, which each reported 69 confirmed
cases. Port Loko and Tonkolili each reported 56 confirmed cases.

Koinadugu and Kambia reported 25 and 6 confirmed cases respectively, making both districts emerging areas of
concern. However, the neighbouring areas of Kenema and Kailahun have continued to experience sharp declines
in incidence. The latter reported 3 confirmed cases in the past week. Kenema did not report a single case and has
not had a confirmed case since 1 November. This reflects the breadth of response efforts in the district, including
isolating EVD-positive patients, tracing and monitoring their contacts, and robust infection and prevention control
measures.

SIERRA LEONE
EVD transmission remains intense and widespread in Sierra Leone, with 533 new confirmed cases reported in the week to 16 November. Much of this was driven by intense transmission in the country?s west and north. The worst affected area remains the capital, Freetown, which reported 168 new confirmed cases (figure 3). Transmission remains persistent and intense across the country with the exception of the south east, with the districts of Bo (33 cases), Bombali (52 cases), Koinadugu (25 cases), Kono (12 cases), Moyamba (10 cases), Port Loko (95 cases), Tonkolili (29 cases), and Western Rural Area (102 cases), all reporting high numbers of new cases during the past week. By contrast, several districts in the south east have reported very few new cases in recent weeks after previously reporting declines. Notably, Kenema and Kailahun reported 0 and 1 case, respectively, during the past week. Kenema has not reported a case since 1 November, and there is strong evidence that this is a result of response efforts.
